Synthesis, Structure, and Physicochemical and Catalytic Characterization of the Novel High-Silica Large-Pore Zeolite SSZ-42

An undulating, one-dimensional 12-membered ring (MR) channel system is exhibited by the novel high-silica zeolite SSZ-42. Its framework topology was determined from X-ray diffraction data taken from a small single crystal (15×15×35 μm) and refined from powder diffraction data. The outcome is a surprise given that the measured adsorption capacity is much higher than expected for a one-dimensional system and that other analytical tools hinted at a multidimensional pore system with at least one 10- and one 12-MR.
