Isolation of Papovavirus From Brain Tumor and Urine of a Patient With Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome

A hemagglutinating papovavirus was isolated from a reticulum cell sarcoma of the brain and from the urine of a patient with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome. The virus from the brain tumor was isolated by cocultivation of tumor fragments with human fetal brain and VERO cells. Virus from the urine, detected in several samples by electron microscopy of pelleted urine, was subsequently isolated in cell culture. Serum from the patient had high antiviral antibody at least a year before tumor detection. A direct relationship of the virus to the tumor was not established.
