Prevalence of Meningococcal Serogroups and Description of Three New Groups1

Amer. J. Epid., 1968, 87: 643–646.—Over a three-year period 843 strains of Neisseria meningitidis from patients with systemic infection were studied. Sulfadiazine resistance was found in 59% of isolates in the first year and 76% in the last half-year. Group B strains accounted for 78%, group C 16% and group A 1.3% of the isolates. Three new serogroups are described (Bo, 29E and 135) which represented 4.3% of the cases. The Bo strain appears to be identical to the Y strain of Slaterus.
