The 'Olokun' head was first brought to Europe in 1948 for a temporary exhibition. A history of the piece is given. The piece turned out to be a cast from the original. There is no chasing or surface cutting and the surface texture is granular. There is too rauch variation in thickness, and accretions are reproduced in bronze. The authors consider the piece to be a sandcasting from a plaster. The probable sequence of casting is described. -- AATA
