The combination of HSLC and fluorigenic labelling with the use of a new fluorescence detector is discussed. The experiments were carried out with N-methyl carbamate insecticides labelled with dansyl chloride. Detection limits between 1–10 ng per 4 µl injection are reported and the method is suitable for quantitative analysis. With a reproducibility of 3% relative standard deviation, linear calibration plots up to 600 ng per injection are obtained. The applicability of the method to environmental sample analysis is demonstrated with soil and water analysis of the carbamates Mesurol and Carbofuran without preliminary clean-up.
