5‐Fluorouracil (5FU) was given orally in capsules and in solution to 75 patients with advanced cancer. Results with the drug in solution were more consistent, indicating better absorption. Predominating toxicity was gastrointestinal, and bone marrow depression was next in incidence. Ob;ective responses occurred in patients with metastatic cancer of the breast, stomach, colon, and rectum. Oral 5FU in solution is a practical form of therapy, simple, effective, safe, and as well tolerated as when given by the intravenous route.
