ABSTRACT Embryonic induction is an interaction between one (inducing) tissue and another (responding) tissue, as a result of which the responding tissue undergoes a change in its direction of differentiation. This is probably the single most important mechanism in vertebrate development leading to differences between cells and to the organization of cells into tissues and organs.
