In 66 depressed outpatients given the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test (DST), the overall rate of nonsuppression was 14%. There was little difference in the rates for patients with endogenous and nonendogenous depression and no overlap between baseline cortisol hypersecretion and DST abnormality.
