The involvement in research of people who use health and social care services can take a variety of different forms. In some instances it will involve the co-option of service users on to service led research projects, while in others service users themselves initiate, control and undertake independent research. This document is a report of a project undertaken by the Mental Health Foundation, which sought to develop and support the latter approach.
