AbstractThe Navajo Tribal Museum was founded in 1961 to preserve for the Navajo people objects that trace the rich history of their land and culture. This paper describes the history of the museum and its role within the Navajo tribal government. Also discussed are the museum's extensive collections and recent accomplishments in the areas of exhibits, collections management, and educational programming.
