CMR is an established advanced imaging modality with a number of unique advantages, recognised clinical indications and a growing evidence base in aiding diagnosis, predicting outcomes and influencing patient management. The test for any new imaging modality is how it can translate into the clinical pathway by changing patient management and affecting clinical outcomes and ongoing studies will address this. With the increasing availability and proven safety, CMR has now become an essential imaging tool for all cardiologists (both generalists and subspecialists) and it will have a pivotal role in a new era of multimodality cardiovascular imaging.
