One result of the rapid advance of technology has been to blunt the critical faculty whereby we should be continuously reviewing the fundamentals of our knowledge in any sphere of intellectual activity. For it is only too possible that some process may 'work ' (especially on a large scale), and yet be little understood in the epistemological sense.
