Professor John Ziman, as readers of Physics Bulletin well know, has an established and distinguished reputation as a theoretical physicist. In addition to this he has also written a very well known book (Public Knowledge) about the methodology of science, the style of which places it in the fields of both the philosophy and sociology of science.
