A case study of an older adult with a learning disability is presented, which is set in a Shared Lives placement. Telecare is a key service provided, which is used to support adults with continence needs and improve the quality of life for the adult and their carer. Following an assessment for Dementia, a package of sensors was used to adapt the adult’s environment at night and orientate them. This service model proved successful and enabled a residential placement to be sustained. The role of occupational therapy in the assessment, intervention and care planning for people with continence needs is vital in the application of telecare and when contextualising the home environment.
