Designers for the past several decades have been processed the speech recognition system for a wide variety of applications to automate several devices using several communications methods. Speech recognition system has not been used a lot in the electronics field and computers due to the complexity and various sources of sounds and signals which may cause any recognition system to fail to operate. In this project, we represent a voice recognition system for power wheelchairs to navigate through voice commands. Wheelchairs are the most important device in the elderly and the disables people in their daily life. It's a major responsibility for engineers to make their life easier to navigate both indoor and outdoor independently. Therefore, the wheelchair which has been built is a voice activation wheelchair with obstacles avoidance system to achieve high level of safety during navigations. The wheelchair works by voice commands via an android phone and navigates according to the commands. The commands will be converted to string data by the help of google data base to be carried via bluetooth from the android meets robot (amr) applications installed in the android device. The wheelchair will be equipped with ultrasonic sensors which are located around the wheelchair to achieve high level of safety. The voice recognition system has been achieved an overall recognition ratio of 95.6% in a silent room. Whereas the obstacles avoidance system has achieved an overall efficiency of 94.28.
