Low-frequency inter-area oscillation, a common phenomenon in the power transmission, has led to many system separations and a few wide-scale blackouts. The embedded HVDC system is a possible solution to this issue when equipped with a proper control. In an embedded HVDC system, at least two HVDC terminals are physically connected within the same meshed ac network. This paper proposed a coordination control strategy for embedded HVDC systems to attenuate low-frequency inter-area oscillations. The transient studies are performed in the PSCAD platform. According to the simulation results, the test system average critical clearing time is improved by 29.2% when with the proposed strategy compared to the system without it.
