The article traces the history and activity of Tatar resettlers in Akmolinsk fortress. Tatar mullahs, interpreters and teachers were the first ones to appear in the newly formed settlement. Substantial concentration of the Tatar population in Akmolinsk results in the formation of Tatar Sloboda, which becomes one of the best town districts. Due to the Tatars’ efforts madrasa was established in the town and the mosque was built. By the end of the XIX century the amount of the Tatar population in Akmolinsk exceeds 1000 people, the Tatars were the third largest ethnic group after the Kazakhs and the Russians.
