uMMARY Two cell lines were obtained from an ovarian lymphoma and a splenic lymphoma, respectively of chicks with Allarek's disease (A/D). They were designated as line MOB-I and INISB-I, respectively. The^ \\, ere grown in nutrient mixture RPM1 1640 supplemented with 10 to 209, fetal calf serum at 41 C in a humidified atmosphere of 57, CO, in air. Both lines consisted of lymphoblastoid cells. The cells gave a negative peroxidase reaction and, did not adhere to the surface of the culture vessel. The MOB-I line degenerated after 320 days, \\, hile the A{SE-I line ITas so far grown \\, GII for over 240 days. Recultivation of cells of the NIOB-I line from ai\ early culture which had been kept in a deep freeze, is tinder way. ImmunofIuorescence tests were performed on these lines to detect \, ITal antigen (VA) and cell surface antigens (CSA) of A/DV. Cultures consistently contained some VA positive cells but very fe\\, CSA positive cells. Electronmicroscopic examination showed that some cells contained several particles regarded as nticleocapsids and empty capsids of herpes virus in their nuclei, but no mature \, iral particles were observed in any cells. No cell-free \, irus could be isolated from either culture fluids or disrupted cells of these lines, but A/D could be leisolated after cocultivation \\, Ith susceptible chick cells. A chromosomal aberration \\, as observed in MSB-I line cells. C type particles were not observed in any cells. Both lines gave negative reactions in the CoFAL test and RTF tests for avian Ieucosis \, irus (*,. LV). Th" g^ antig. n of AL w^^ pre^, nt in MOB-I line colts, but n. t in ^, IsB-I line cells. Ten cloned sublines derived from the MSB-I line also contained some \;A positive cells. This is the first time that LTD asscciated lymphoma cell lines have been obtained and they should be useful in comparative researclT on herpes associated lymphocytic cell lines.
