Aiming to realize many-body generalizations of topological band inversions, the authors construct and study a class of lattice models exhibiting higher angular momentum band inversion transitions protected by rotational symmetry. As a result of the non-vanishing density of states at such transitions, interactions are likely to affect the nature of the transition, possibly giving rise to interesting correlated states for electrons and holes. The models developed here represent a first and important step towards the identification of relevant materials.
