The article explores actual problems of Germany. It stresses its moderate policy in terms of military costs, which is subject of US criticism. Germany realized higher comparable value of civil branches compared with military ones and it is persistent in promoting this course. The author remembers the words by Walther Rathenau: "Economy is our destiny". This idea was supported by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt. The article dwells upon significant difficulties in relations between German and other members of the EU. Another issue is a thesis, which has been publicly discussed, about nuclear weapons and German interests. One more point of concern is that some European countries (Greece, Poland) have raised a topic of German military reparations.
