The last few years have witnessed the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in almost all domains from engineering to medicine. The use of AI as a tool for teaching and learning is gaining widespread popularity all over. This paper is a research in progress to explore the potential of AI in student engagement for vocational education in the UAE. In particular, the focus is on how AI tools can simulate a one-on-one, mentor/guide-based, supervised learning experience to vocational students. Furthermore, the study intends to measure the impact of providing such an experience on student performance. The study will employ an experimental design to study the effectiveness of an AI-based mentoring system on student performance. The contribution of this study will be to propose a one-on-one intelligent mentoring system in the context of vocational studies, and evaluate its effectiveness of better learning outcomes for students.
