All-Spain National Identity in an Era of Change (Late 20th – Early 21th Centuries)

The article analyzes the evolution of the “conservative” trend in the socio-cultural processes and the mindset of Spanish population during the post-Franco period (late 20th — early 21th centuries) — on the example of the situation with nationwide identity. The author shows the ideological background due to which a gradual weakening of the ”national bonds” took place. Considering the “conservative reaction” of the part of society that has suddenly appeared in recent years (the party “VOX” phenomenon), the author gives possible explanations of its causes. It is most likely that we are looking at the response of a part of the population to the “identity crisis”, the manifestation of a kind of “self-preservation instinct” naturally inherent in the cultural and historical community of Spaniards under conditions of leveling globalization.
