Does catheter cryoballoon ablation reduce atrial fibrillation recurrence in patients receiving initial treatment for symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation?
Patients receiving initial treatment for symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
Catheter cryoballoon ablation
Antiarrhythmic drug therapy
Atrial fibrillation recurrence as assessed by continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring
Catheter cryoballoon ablation is more effective than antiarrhythmic drug therapy for preventing atrial fibrillation recurrence as an initial treatment strategy for symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
Among patients receiving initial treatment for symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, there was a significantly lower rate of atrial fibrillation recurrence with catheter cryoballoon ablation than with antiarrhythmic drug therapy, as assessed by continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring.
