Electrohydraulic antilock braking system (ABS) is one of important components in current commercial road vehicles. It provides safe protection and minimizes braking distance. This study focuses on the electric or electromechanical antilock braking system for electric vehicles, which mainly includes the electromechanical brakes (EMBs) and the ABS methods. Taking into account the EMB topologies, the electromechanical brakes are classified into four types. The status of the research on four EMB topologies is surveyed. Furthermore, four EMB topologies are evaluated according to the performance and practicability. The ABS methodologies are classified into four types. The status of the research on four ABS methodologies is investigated. In addition, the performance and practicability of ABS methods are defined as the evaluation indices, to evaluate the cited ABS methods. The challenging issues in research on EMBs and ABS methods are also addressed.
