Legislative initiatives of some countries in the world to create national digital currencies are detailed. The threats and risks of using cryptocurrencies worldwide have been specified. The global trends in the development and use of virtual assets, in particular cryptocurrencies are outlined. The directions of the improvements of the legislative support for the circulation of virtual assets in Ukraine have been identified.
