Cases are reviewed with particular emphasis on predisposing factors and diagnostic signs in cryptococcosis and stressing diagnostic serology. The latex slide agglutination test for cryptococcal antigen is found to be sensitive and specific as a diagnostic tool and valuable as a prognostic indicator. Its value is maximized when it is used in conjunction with an agglutination test for cryptococcal antibody, since there appears to be an inverse relationship between the two, so that antibody may be found in cases in which the test for antigen is negative.
