The operation of a voltage source power converter (VSC) with regeneration capability, controllable power factor and low distortion of utility currents is analyzed at increased utility voltage. Increase in utility voltage causes a VSC to saturate and enter a nonlinear mode of operation. A PWM algorithm is implemented which extends the linear region of operation by 15% and reduces commutation losses by 33%. In addition, a current regulator is implemented to control the reactive current of the VSC under normal and elevated utility voltage. The results of analysis are experimentally verified on a 100 kW three phase voltage source converter.>
