PROPOSED changes in the organization and financing of health care provision and of graduate medical education are under consideration by the Clinton administration, which has charged a presidential task force to develop a comprehensive proposal for health system reform for submission to Congress. In addition, the Council on Graduate Medical Education and the Physician Payment Review Commission have recommended ways to achieve changes in the physician workforce. To assist the academic community in preparing for the effects of these proposed changes on medical schools and their affiliated teaching hospitals, the American Medical Association House of Delegates adopted a report entitled "The Impact of Health System Reform on Medical Education" at its 1993 annual meeting.
