The article discusses Training and Development (TAD), a popular human resources (HR) method. The question of whether TAD effectively improves employee performance is addressed. A study investigating the relationships between employee intentions, employee performance, and training opportunities is described. Employee motivation is discussed as a crucial element, as employees who are not work-oriented are unlikely to take advantage of training opportunities. Measures of work performance and citizenship behavior are also discussed.
