Global inequities in the prevalence of undernourishment

Abstract Objective This research draws on the theory of unequal exchange to help explain global inequities in the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU). Methods I evaluate the proposition that the vertical flow of exports to high‐income countries exerts harmful effects on undernourishment in less‐developed countries using fixed effects estimation and generalized least squares random effects tobit panel regression models. Results Insights from the theory of unequal exchange help advance our understanding of global inequities in the PoU. Conclusion This analysis contributes to an emerging body of literature suggesting that this unique form of global economic integration exerts harmful effects on health outcomes in less‐developed countries.
