As we career forward into new dimensions of our omnipresent computational world, museums are increasingly challenged to enter this emerging metaphysical landscape where a burgeoning Metaverse increasingly occupies that space between reality and virtuality, accelerating new developments in VR, AR, XR, and generative arts. Although museums have been hesitant to enter virtual worlds, the enormous success of immersive art exhibitions attracting millions of visitors has sparked new signs of computational art beginning to emerge in traditional spaces of major museums with nods from their lead curators. This paper explores recent examples of how these exciting new trends are poised to invigorate the world of physical museums and museum-like spaces taking inspiration from a new wave of art and life in the Metaverse.
