Robust optimization based coordinated network and source planning of integrated energy systems

The optimal operation of integrated energy systems is affected by the network structure and source configuration in planning process. With the rapid developments of renewable energies, the optimal size and location of sources under uncertainty conditions should be considered in the planning. A robust optimization based coordinated network and source planning method of integrated energy systems is proposed in this paper. The coordinated network and sources planning model of integrated energy systems determining both the locations and sizes of the sources simultaneously is established. For the newly increased power loads, the constraint of gas and power supply necessities for new loads is added in the model. Additionally, to deal with the uncertainties of renewable energies, the robust optimization algorithm is applied to solve the planning problem, in which the random distribution parameters are unnecessary. The planning method is applied on an integrated energy system composed by a 20-node natural gas pipeline network and IEEE 33-bus testing system under 4 uncertainty scenarios. The detailed optimal sizes of sources at every bus can be obtained, and the total costs of the proposed robust planning method are at least 20.73% lower than the deterministic method under the 4 scenarios and different robust parameters. The simulating results show that for the most conservative condition, the proposed robust optimization based planning method can decrease 0.87% of the total costs under uncertainty conditions compared with the deterministic method.
