This paper aims to demonstrate the immense potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in improving the quality of group work in higher education institutions. While group work has been a widely accepted approach to promoting students' learning and collaboration skills, it poses several challenges, such as ineffective communication, unequal contributions, and difficulties monitoring progress. These challenges can be addressed by integrating AI tools that provide tailor-made feedback and facilitate communication and collaboration among group members by analyzing students' behavior and performance data. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) has been utilized as one of the information system theories to influence and understand students' intentions and behaviors towards using AI tools. This paper reviews existing literature case studies and proposes a research model based on TPB and AI to provide a theoretical background on students' group work, challenges, and the impact of AI on teamwork. In conclusion, AI can potentially revolutionize several sectors of society, including education. Hence, it is strongly recommended that its use in group work within higher education institutions be explored further.
