The keyword of childcare is now recognized as a societal issue beyond just women's gender concerns, as the government is proposing various childcare policies to address the low birthrate and aging population. However, in contrast to the various forms of support for childcare for infants and toddlers, such as family childcare subsidies, daycare fee support, and Nuri curriculum support, there is a significant lack of attention in the public sector regarding after-school care for elementary school students, especially those in lower grades. This calls for systematic and continuous improvements in the institutional framework through an analysis of the current situation of after-school care for elementary students to reduce the blind spots in elementary childcare. This study aimed to provide essential data for determining suitable locations for childcare facilities in order to address the gaps and deficiencies in childcare services. In 2021, Dalseo-gu in Daegu achieved the certification as a child-friendly city, and in September 2023, the city of Daegu also obtained child-friendly city certification. This study aims to analyze the current state of childcare facilities for elementary school students in the Daegu area, in alignment with the city's child policy initiatives, to lay the groundwork for establishing an all-day childcare system at the regional level. In contrast to service facilities that are used selectively by an unspecified number of people, childcare facilities are intended for regular use by residents or nearby individuals who apply for the service, with the premise of accessibility through walking from their residence or school. Therefore, in this study, we used GIS network analysis techniques centered around childcare facilities to delineate the service areas for childcare facilities.
