Assessment of the prevalence of hypertension patients among patients with type 2 diabetes in Al-Diwaniyah Province

Background: Diabetes and high blood pressure are among the chronic diseases that have recently increased alarmingly in all countries of the world. Both these health disorders associated with wrong practices such as unhealthy nutrition and neglect of exercise, in addition to constant exposure to psychological stress. Objective:In Iraq, the study on hypertension and diabetes each of them separately is many, while we did not find a study deals with the relationship between them, especially the effect of glucose accumulation in blood vessels on high blood pressure, therefore we designed the current study to investigate the risks of blood pressure in type 2 diabetic Miletus (T2DM) patients. Methods: Our study is a single cross – sectional study conducted on T2DM patients who are hospitalized in Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital and Al-Shamiya General Hospital for the period from November 2021 until February of the year 2022, this study was conducted by taking a blood sample from 180 T2DM patients for clinical and laboratory diagnosis. Also, blood pressure and diabetes were measured for all patients and investigated for a period of hypertension before or after diabetes. Moreover, complete blood count must be performed to determine blood viscosity. The results: The current study showed that most diabetics (23%) are in the (41–50)-year-old age group, and that the main reason for the occurrence of diabetes is due to genetic causes by 48%, and obesity by 28%. Pregnancy by 14%, and disorders of the circulatory system by 10%. The current study showed that (51%) of diabetics suffer from hypertension, and most of the diabetics who suffer from high blood pressure blood pressure are female. We found all diabetic patients within the age group (31-40) years suffering from high blood pressure, and the results showed that 6% of the patients coincided with diabetes and blood pressure together while 61% were suffering from hypertension before diabetes while 33% of patients connected with high blood pressure after diabetes. So we found a higher percentage of PCV in patients have both diabetes and hypertension (89.81%) compared to patients with diabetes only (62.90%). In conclusion, the current study showed the clear correlation between diabetes and high blood pressure, especially among females in our society, so we must hurry in the treatment and investigation of these chronic diseases to prevent their coincidence with each other and increase health complications in patients.
