The research article examines the main trends in the development of the art of an opera artist in China at the beginning of the 21st century.The purpose of the article was to study the specifics of the vocal interpretation of G.Puccini's opera La Bohème by modern Chinese opera performers.Considering the opera concept, the author of the article bases his work on the fact that Puccini, whose work is associated with Verismo opera, went beyond verismo, creating unique examples of Italian opera art at the turn of the 20th century.The creative achievements of national schools of composition, primarily Italian and its representative of the second half of the 19th century, G.Verdi, played a large role in the composer's innovations.Based on the results of the centuries-long development of the opera genre, Puccini created a new recitative-arioso vocal style, which was one of the main components of the operatic art of the 20th century.The article examines the history of the emergence and musical language features of opera.It is noted that La Bohème, staged in 1896, quickly became one of the most popular operas in the world, opening new paths for the development of opera houses in the 20th century.At the beginning of the 21st century, it became one of the most frequently performed operas of the academic tradition in China.Considering the interpretations of Puccini's famous work by Chinese and European performers in productions of the Shanghai Grand Theater and the National Center for the Performing Arts, the author identifies modern approaches to staging the opera.The author of the article focuses on comparing the interpretations of vocal parts by performers in theatre productions in Shanghai and Beijing.In conclusion, it is noted that familiarising viewers with the masterpieces of Italian music is certainly important in the context of the development of national performing and composing schools in Asian countries.This strategy for transmitting the values of academic culture in the context of intercultural dialogue between the East and the West is presented as the most effective in the conditions of the formation and development of European opera culture in China.
