The increasing flash drought arouses wide attention due to its rapid onset and enormous impact on terrestrial ecosystems. However, the influence of human activities on flash droughts ecological impact remains unclear. Here we found that there is a significant intensifying ecological response to flash droughts from 1961 to 2014 based on land surface modeling. Furthermore, we attributed the influence of land use and land cover change (LUCC) and anthropogenic influence (ANT) to the intensifying response. Whereas vegetation greening offset the negative flash droughts impacts, anthropogenic climate change contributed to the declining resistance of terrestrial ecosystem productivity to flash droughts. This study implies that the land carbon sink is more challenging due to the reduced ecosystem capacity in a warming climate.
