Abstract This study looks at how thermal and mass stratification affect the unsteady parabolic flow past an infinite vertical plate with exponentially decaying temperature and variable mass diffusion in a porous medium. The Laplace transform method is applied to solve the governing equations for flow, energy, and mass diffusion. The effects of the both stratification on the flow field, temperature, and mass diffusion are then investigated. The research suggests that the existence of thermal and mass stratification has a considerable influence on the profiles of velocity, temperature, and mass diffusion. It is also found that a stable state is reached for the velocity when both stratification parameters are increased, while stable states are reached for the temperature and concentration when the mass stratification is increased but the thermal stratification is decreased.
