The article carries out a historiographical analysis of the studies of Ukrainian scientists, which reveal the issues of physical education of children and youth in the system of out-of-school institutions. The key aspects of the study of problems in the modern theory of scientific knowledge are highlighted. It has been established that at the current stage, the interest of scientists has significantly increased both in the problem of physical education of children and youth, and in the peculiarities of the functioning of certain educational institutions of the sports profile in Ukraine. Scientists are unanimous in the fact that out-of-school education, out-of-school institutions of various types are an integral part of the implementation of the state educational policy and contribute to the comprehensive, harmonious development of the individual. Highlighting the history of the emergence of educational institutions of a sports profile, the directions of their activities, the peculiarities of legal and financial support, problems and prospects for development in modern market conditions, the authors emphasize that children's and youth sports play a special role in the life of society and an individual child, because sports activities ensure the development of pupils' physical abilities, create the necessary conditions for full recovery, hardening, meaningful rest and leisure, physical education and sports, preparation of the sports reserve for national teams of Ukraine, acquisition of healthy lifestyle skills. Domestic out-of-school sports education has gone through a path of formation and development rich in historical traditions. Turning to the history of out-of-school institutions, education and training in them, management, financing and staffing makes it possible to take into account the achievements, miscalculations, prospects of this important socio-pedagogical process in the context of a historical retrospective. It has been established that the complete history of the development of physical education of children and youth in the system of extra-curricular institutions has not yet been adequately covered in historiography. The analysis and systematization of research on this problem gained further development.
