The article carries out a theoretical analysis of sports and health and physical culture activities of student youth in extracurricular activities. Sports and physical activity of an individual is an inseparable component of the national history and culture of the people, it contributes to the harmonious development of a person, his achievement of longevity, and the formation of his culture of health. The state assigns the responsibility for solving the problems of the social complex, which is inseparably connected with the condition and strengthening of the health of children, adolescents, students, workers of enterprises and institutions of Ukraine, to sports and health activities. In addition, the socially determined need for the formation of human health should be transformed into a cultural one, into a desire for physical improvement. Political, socio-economic changes, the consequences of the pandemic, and the military situation in Ukraine require the search for new methods, means, techniques for solving educational and applied tasks. An analysis of the peculiarities of the organization of sports and recreational activities of students was carried out, which in the study is defined as a system of mass sports and physical education activities aimed at creating conditions for ensuring optimal motor activity of each student at the place of study, living and recreation for health promotion and disease prevention. active leisure. The expediency of implementing new approaches in the implementation of the educational process of students in extracurricular activities is substantiated: to clearly structure the work of students and teachers in extracurricular time; expand sections on sports that students like; involve students in volunteer work; conduct sports and entertainment and military-patriotic contests and holidays; cooperate with local children's and youth sports schools; involve practical workers in conducting binary classes, trainings, etc.
