The article reveals the essence and possibilities of designing a model of professional training of future ecologists. The goal of the professional training of future ecologists is presented as a predetermined general change in the state, properties and qualities of the object of the professional activity of the ecologist, to the final achievement of which his efforts are directed. The professional tasks of the future ecologist are highlighted as a complex of formed or newly emerging requirements for the state of natural-production systems and their specific elements that function at a certain time interval and a certain territory, the implementation of which will ensure the correct and effective solution of specific production problems, directly or indirectly related to ecology. The object of professional activity of the future ecologist is determined - natural production systems, which are objects of the branches of industrial and agricultural production and objects of the natural environment, which form a single technical, economic and ecological structure of the region, interact in an orderly manner with each other in exchange processes information, consumption of material and energy resources and waste processing. Requirements for the training of a future ecologist are summarized and professional functions are highlighted: executive, imperative, independent, alternative. The principles of designing the content of the professional training of the future ecologist (ecological self-awareness, competitiveness, communicativeness, professional motivation, comprehensive research of ecological problems, priority of ecological tasks before technical and economic ones, ensuring guaranteed ecological safety of technological organizational and management solutions, "holism" or integrity of natural systems, application of methods of simulation study of alternative solutions. On the basis of a practical analysis of the functions and tasks of the professional activity of the future ecologist, professionally significant types of activity were established: research-analytical, design-construction, production-technological, organizational-management, social-communicative.
