Furfural content in transformer oil is one of the important indicators of insulation aging in power transformers, detection of furfural content in transformer oil can effectively reflect the insulation aging degree of transformer oil. The oil samples were examined using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and a laser confocal Raman spectroscopy instrument, and the spectral data were preprocessed by the polynomial least squares method. Through the measured spectra, the characteristic peaks of Raman and infrared detection of furfural in transformer oil were determined to be 1703 cm-l and 1704 cm-I, respectively. According to the linear relationship between the area of the infrared and Raman characteristic peaks and the concentration of furfural in the transformer oil, the quantitative analysis model of infrared and Raman for the detection of furfural in the transformer oil was investigated, and the goodness-of-fit was 0.998 and 0.899, respectively. The results showed that the lower limit of detection of infrared spectroscopy was higher than that of Raman spectroscopy, and both had good effect on the detection of furfural in transformer oil, which proposed a new way of thinking for the accurate detection of aging characteristics.
