Subject of study. This study investigated a tunable source utilizing acousto-optic filtering, enabling control over the number, position, and intensity of selected spectral lines, facilitating color reproduction within a broad color gamut. Aim of study. This study aimed to assess the color reproduction accuracy of this tunable source based on an acousto-optical tunable filter, analyze influencing factors, and develop an algorithm for optimal spectral component selection to minimize errors. Methods. This study utilized a tunable source layout for recording spectral characteristics and determining color coordinates and applied the developed algorithm to analyze color reproduction accuracy and identify sources of error. Main results. The analysis of the source parameters showed that, at present, the color reproduction accuracy of the developed tunable source, considering the proposed algorithm for selecting the basic components, can be attributed to the working standard. The study also identified ways to improve the color reproduction accuracy. Practical significance. The practical significance of these results lies in evaluating the applicability of a source based on an acousto-optical tunable filter and providing recommendations for enhancing color reproduction accuracy. The proposed solutions may find application in optical systems of visual colorimeters for estimating color differences in a wide color gamut, a capability not previously realized.
