With the rapid development of vocational education in China, the demand for English teachers in higher vocational colleges has been increasing. Meanwhile, the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges has become a major concern as it directly affects the quality of education. This paper is a study on the strategies for improving the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges, with the aim of enhancing the quality of English education in higher vocational colleges. The research background and significance are discussed in the first section, highlighting the importance of improving the teaching competence of English teachers in vocational colleges. The second section covers relevant theories and models, including an overview of the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges and theoretical models for enhancing their teaching competence. The third section presents an analysis of the current status of the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges, including a survey of their current teaching competence, an analysis of the need for improvement, and an analysis of influencing factors. This leads to the fourth section, which discusses strategies for enhancing the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges, including curriculum innovation, the application of information technology and teaching resources, improvement of specialized knowledge and teaching skills, establishment of teaching evaluation and feedback mechanisms, and the cultivation of English teachers' overall quality and professional development. The fifth section focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of the strategies for enhancing the teaching competence of English teachers in higher vocational colleges, involving the construction of an evaluation index system, selection of evaluation methods, data collection, and analysis of the evaluation results. The last section explores the implementation pathway for the strategies, emphasizing the need for management support, as well as the formulation of English teachers' development plans.
