Integrating communication into vehicles is a relatively new and modern concept that has been universally adopted by vehicle manufacturers. Unfortunately, the rapid adoption has led to oversight, resulting in a disregard for the security of these vehicles and their software. This paper aims to address the issue by providing background information on connected vehicle security, including its definition, significance, current standards, various types of threats and vulnerabilities, mitigation strategies, and a case study. The paper discusses the risks and impacts of compromised vehicles and highlights the unique challenges in securing connected vehicles. Additionally, it proposes a list of changes for better preparation against growing threats to vehicle security.
