In view of the rapid development of modern radar technology and the increasing complexity of the modern radar system, this paper points out that the current situation leads to the problem that the radar types are too complex and the function is single, and if you want to improve or change the radar function, you need to replace a large number of hardware, which leads to the challenge of radar research and development efficiency and update speed. In order to solve these challenges, this paper proposes a solution called software-defined radar, and expounds the idea of selecting a heterogeneous computing platform as the core platform of software-defined radar. On this basis, a software-defined radar architecture of three levels, namely analog layer, logic layer and software layer, was constructed, and RFSoC heterogeneous chip and PetaLinux embedded operating system were selected as the architecture carrier according to the division of software and hardware and functional characteristics of each layer. The paper also analyzes the specific implementation methods of transferring the functions of radar signal transmission, radar signal processing and other advanced algorithms to the software level. Finally, the future development trend and worthy of attention of software-defined radar technology are summarized. The actual field test shows that the software-defined radar platform has achieved good results, which verifies the feasibility of software-defined radar technology.
