This study aimed to examine the effect of complex trauma on the symptoms of relationship addiction in adults. In addition, this study tried to investigate whether internalized shame and self-silencing have a double mediating effect on the relationship between complex trauma and relationship addiction. To this end, we analyzed data from 350 adults using the scales measuring complex trauma, relationship addiction, internalized shame and self-silencing. As a result, first, there was a positive correlation between complex trauma, relationship addiction, internalized shame and self-silencing. Second, it was confirmed that internalized shame and self-silencing each had a mediating effect between complex trauma and relationship addiction. Third, because of confirming the serial double mediation effect, it was shown that internalized shame and self-silencing sequentially had a mediating effect in the process of complex trauma leading to relationship addiction. The implications and limitations of these results were discussed.
