Abstract We present here a new method to estimate the solution of a cubic equation with real and complex coefficients. Our method is based on a derived quadratic from the original cubic allowing a reliable evaluation of the roots through a few simple and fast steps without needing extended formulae or logarithms. This approach is suitable for engineering applications and scientific research. Mathematics Subject Classification (2010). 11D25, 12D10, 26C10, 30C15.
