The article shows the importance of the development of the fruit and berry subcomplex of the agro-industrial complex for ensuring food security in Russia. Information is provided on the importance of fruits and berries in the structure of nutrition of the population. The analysis of the state of fruit and berry production in Russia in dynamics for 2000-2022 is carried out. The information basis of the study was the electronic databases of Rosstat, data from reviews of expert analytical centers. The analysis of the development of the industry was carried out using comparative, multilevel and spatial-temporal research methods. Significant shifts in the structure of imports and self-sufficiency of the food market with fruit and berry products were noted. The measures of state support for the development of horticulture and nursery production in the country in order to achieve import substitution are described.
