Recently, wearable electronic devices have been drawing considerable interest because of their versatility in a wide range of applications, including motion detection, smart clothing, and health surveillance. Maintaining an adequate power supply is a critical factor in ensuring the continuous operation of wearable electronics. Organic solar cells (OSCs), with advantages that include high flexibility, portability, and low-cost solution-based processing, have achieved power conversion efficiencies of more than 19% and can thus serve as self-powered sources for sustainably powered wearable electronics. In this review, we outline the use of OSCs in wearable electronics, encompassing recent progress in the development of flexible OSCs, semitransparent OSCs, and scalable manufacturing techniques for OSCs. Additionally, we propose challenges for the development of specific OSCs to power wearable electronics.
